Holistic Health Consultation

A discussion with me is the best place to start when aiming to understand your mind-bodys’ current state of health. Discussing your presenting ailments and symptoms can help draw a map to the root cause of your imbalances.  Through traditional, clinical diagnostic methods such as pulse and tongue observation and taking a complete medical case history, the strength of digestion, level of toxins (ama) in the body and the location and nature of the root causes of “dis-ease” can be deduced.  From here a healing journey can be designed specifically for your needs. You do not have to be “sick” in order to benefit from the wisdom of ayurveda. Routines and regimes can be created for you so that you can not only prevent disease but live within your natural cycles to feel true vitality.

This consultation will include recommended dietary guidelines, recipes, daily routines and a suggested herbal medicine protocol and therapeutic body treatments.  It will be emailed to you after your visit for you to print off and refer to at your leisure.  A complimentary follow up phone call to answer any questions you may have about the plan is available to you.  A follow-up consultation to discuss your progress is recommended 4-6 weeks after you have begun the outlined adjustments to your diet and lifestyle and have begun on the herbal protocol. This gives you opportunity to clarify any questions that may have arisen for you or to renew or alter your herbal pescription.

As your Ayurvedic Lifestyle Consultant I am here for you every step of the way on your journey back to perfect health with willingness and commitment to share my knowledge and understanding of this beautiful, ancient and holistic Science of Life:  Ayurveda.

“I first saw Phillipa around 8 months ago after prolonged chronic pain and digestive issues. Her calm and gentle approach in introducing me to Ayurveda was inspiring, and her guidance around diet has given my body a much better place to heal and recover from. I have no hesitation recommending her to anyone who has health issues, is feeling out of sorts or out of shape, or just needs gentle pointing in a more aligned direction. If I could, I would see her for abyhanga or shirodhara weekly - so phenomenally relaxing and invigorating at the same time. Thank you so much, Phillipa. - L, Preston

Shirodhara

This tantalizing and tranquil, ancient ritual of Shirodhara, done in silence, soothes and invigorates the senses and the mind. Shirodhara means the dripping of oil like a thread (dhara) on the head (shiro), namely the third eye. A total feeling of wellness and mental clarity is experienced in this process. Working on the pineal and pituitary gland, it predominantly benefits the endocrine system and the central nervous system.  This treatment is most suited to those managing symptoms of anxiety, insomnia, depression, stress, menopausal symptoms, chronic fatigue, MS or Parkinsons’ but has positive effects for anyone seeking a rejuvenation of the spirit and balancing of the body and mind. This treatment finishes with a grounding, gentle head massage. Pure and total bliss for the entire body and mind.

Shirodhara performed in a consecutive series can have profound and positive effects on mental well-being. The oil from your first treatment can be reserved for your on-going treatment and therefore, reduce your costs for follow up sessions. This must be undertaken in a 3 month period. Payment plans can be arranged.

Shirodhara therapeutic treatment

Shirodhara therapeutic treatment

“I’ve always wanted to have a Shirodhara but never had the opportunity to. It’s something very special which I didn’t want to do at any day spa. My Shirodhara experience with Phillipa was simply magical. She takes care, dedication and love with every part of the experience. The feeling her Shirodhara gave me was beyond something I can explain in words: I felt uplifted, calm and clear after the experience. After the treatment, Phillipa took great care to explain to me how I might feel and which foods to eat. I have recommended Phillipa’s Ayurvedic treatments to all my friends and family and I will definitely be coming back for more Shirodhara’s! Thank you Phillipa for the beautiful and touching experience, it was amazing! —

Abhyanga

Abhyanga is a rejuvenating, full body therapeutic massage with warm, medicated oil.  The flowing, rhythmic movement of this style of massage stimulates the lymphatic system to expel toxins deep within the tissues and relieve muscle tension.

It is believed that the effects of abhyanga are similar to those received when one is saturated with love: a coming home to self and feeling grounded and warm. Sneha is the Sanskrit word that can be translated as both “oil” and “love”.  Snehapana is the art of oiling the body...come and allow me to coat you in love!

This treatment is finished with a Swedana - a full body herbal steam therapy.  By sitting in the steam box, head exposed to fresh air,  you will detox through the pores sweating and allow the medicated oil to penetrate more deeply inwards to nourish the skin and tissues. You will feel calm, grounded, warm, soothed and revitalised from an abyhanga experience.

Marma Abhyanga

Marma literally means “vital energy house”. A marma point, of which there are 108 in the body, is defined as an anatomical site where the muscles, veins, ligaments, bones and joints come together and align with our energy channels. The marmas are pressed in a circular motion to balance the flow of energy by unblocking the channels in the body that have become affected by “dis-ease”, stagnation and stress.  This treatment is finished with a Swedana - a full body herbal steam therapy.

Ayurvedic Powder Massage (Udvartanam)

This massage therapy involves scrubbing the body using “Ubtan”, a traditional powder made of different natural herbs ground to a specific texture.  It is performed completely dry (ruksha) on the body with an amount of sesame oil depending on your constitution.  The massage is performed in upward and anti-clockwise movement against the growth of hair to invigorate circulation, break up fats and remove lymphatic toxins from the body and deeply exfoliate the skin.  It is recommended for those high in kapha dosha and feeling sluggish or heavy in nature as it helps reduce excess cellulite and fat accumulated under the skin; it improves the complexion of the skin and can help with muscular weakness and those who suffer with rheumatoid arthritis.

A final full body steam at the end of the massage leaves the body feeling fresh, light and rejuvenated. A shower is offered at the end of your treatment for your comfort should you require.

Nasya Therapy

Nasya therapy benefits all three doshas, but is especially effective for vata and kapha ailments. The life force 'prana' enters the body through the nose. Prana controls the vital cerebral, sensory and motor functions of the body. Nasal treatment gives immediate relief to most disorders relating to the mind, respiratory and nervous system. It alleviates headache, migraine and sinusitis but this treatment can also improve frozen shoulder, sluggishness, boost immunity, sharpen memory, and support those suffering chronic fatigue just to name a few of its benefits.

The nose is the gateway for the head, the herbal oil that is put into the nose moves up the channels up to the 'smgata ka' (a vital spot at the base of the brain), spreads to the whole of the (interior of) head, the channels of the eyes, ears, throat and cures diseases affecting the parts above the shoulders quickly, removing the accumulation of doshas localised in the head. You will be directed to administer a home care treatment after your session to get the full benefits of this practice.

Kati/Greeva/Janu Basti

Hot oil treatment for musculo-skeletal ailments.  A well made of urad flour (black lentil) is placed on a specific location on the body then warm, medicated oil is placed within it for a minimum of 20 minutes to aid pain relief, inflammation and discomfort.  The area is then massaged to stimulate circulation and remove stagnation.  Best recommended for spine (kati basti), neck (greeva basti) and knees (janu basti).  Conditions managed with this treatment range from sciatica, bursitis, slipped or bulging discs, issues with patella or ACL (knees) and general back pain, discomfort and stiffness. The treatment is finished with a localised herbal steam therapy. Often a herbal medicine protocol is recommended to support healing that can be discussed at time of treatment and yoga and ayurvedic practices and diet for home care treatment.

Follow up sessions $150

*Three to seven consecutive treatments recommended for acute conditions. Payment plans are available.

Indian Head Massage

The aim of Indian head massage is to release the stress that has accumulated in the tissues, muscles and joints of the head, face, neck and shoulders through a series of pressure points and movement .  It can be done fully clothed with no oil or with the application of warm, medicated oil.  It is especially good for relieving stress, tension, fatigue, insomnia, headaches, migraine and sinusitis.  A great treatment for those that work at a desk for long periods of time.  The experience is deeply calming and relaxing, leaving you feeling energised and revitalised and better able to concentrate.

45mins session $80

Reiki

Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by "laying on hands" and is based on the idea that an unseen "life force universal energy" flows through us.  It helps to calm and balance the central nervous system.  It works on the premise that emotions can affect the body at a metaphysical level and block the flow of energy and good health.    By applying the hands on certain areas of the body and with the use of ancient symbols, energy or prana - life force - is assisted to flow more freely, removing stagnation, pain, illness and stress and allowing the body to begin to heal itself.  As a Reiki Master since 2005, I revere this practice with great respect for the ability it has to help support the healing process for an individual by bringing awareness to emotions that can affect us at a physical level and also at a metaphysical/mental level.

1hr session $75

Over the years, I have found Phillipa to be excellent in her Ayurvedic practice and knowledge. She has conducted my treatments (which have also included Reiki) with great care, thoroughness, and consideration. I have found my appointments with Phillipa to be a sacred time dedicated to my innermost healing. I would not hesitate to recommend her highly enough for your health and well-being to reach its potential in life.
